Mizzou: Videography

Video Project #1:

For this video assignment we were tasked with interviewing one person and getting a matched action sequence with a minimum of 5 different shot types (wide, close up, over-the-shoulder, etc.). The goal was to film our subject doing an action, and make it a seamless visual transition between each shot.

Matched-Action Sequence: Importance of Routines

For my first 1-minute video assignment, I interviewed my suitemate Lucy Peacock about her morning routine and got a matched-action sequence of her washing her face. I am really proud of this video assignment, as it was my first time doing a video with a matched action sequence and I think it turned out pretty well. I also really like the creative angles I shot for it. My biggest challenge on this assignment was editing the interview down, as there were multiple jump cuts and I didn’t film enough Broll to cover them. My creative solution to this problem was zooming the interview in and out so the shot appeared different.

Video Projects #2 & #3:

For these two assignments, we were tasked with interviewing two different people and getting a 5-shot matched action sequence. Then, we edited this content in two different ways, 1) a News-Style edit reporting on a unique story; 2) a strategic communication-style edit advertising a certain object, organization, etc.

News-Style Video: Mizzou Student Musicians

For this 2-minute News-style video assignment, I focused on the topic of student musicians at Mizzou. I interviewed Maggie LeBeau (Violinist) and Jasmine Jackson (Saxophonist) and got matched action sequences of both of them playing part of a piece. I struggled to edit together the matched action sequences as the song’s audio had to sound right across different clips. I am really proud of how it turned out though, and I also think my interviewee’s gave great answers I was able to edit together into a compelling story.
